K’taka shuns divisive politics

The humiliating defeat of BJP in the Karnataka polls is a grim reminder that divisive politics has no place in a multicultural society. The results exposed the depths of anti-incumbency sweeping the southern State.

If the videos doing the rounds on social media are to be believed, even the declaration of paid holiday for Kannadigas back fired as they went hammer and tongs and voted for the Congress.

Ironically, the national TV channels going all guns blazing for an imminent victory of the saffron party had to bite the dust even as the exit polls declared the grand old party as a clear winner.

The high octane propaganda campaign spearheaded by PM could not turn the tables in their favour. This resounding victory should serve as a wake-up call for regrouping of the State Congress party at the grassroots level and take on the sulking double-engine government by the horns as enough damage has been done to the State which is irreversible.

Last but not the least, it is high time that a filmmaker is assigned with the job of creating Goa Files close on the heels of the Kashmir Files and Kerala Story, revolving round the theme of Mhadei river diversion and doublespeak of the political class and to make it a blockbuster movie all other ingredients of double tracking, the contentious linear projects and disturbing the ecology and biodiversity could be added as frills.
