As per reports in the media, in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) the Life Insurance of India (LIC) has been frequently sending letters addressed to Vanisha Pathak’s father to repay the dues of Rs 29 lakhs or ‘be ready to face legal action.’ Her father was an agent for the LIC and had availed a home loan. The LIC has blocked her dad’s savings and monthly commissions, we do not know whether this is legally tenable. The 17-yr-old Vanisha whose parents succumbed to Covid in May 2021, recently passed her Xth standard exam by obtaining an incredible 99.8% and has a young brother to look after. Instead of celebrating her success neither the LIC nor government seems to be helping her. She is not asking for sympathy nor to waive off the loan but has requested the LIC to wait till she turns 18 years so that she will be in a position to repay the loan. Hope that the LIC with all its legal machinery has the courage to take on regular and wilful defaulters, instead of targetting two innocent orphaned children.
