Long arm of law must not aid and abet criminals

With reference to the article-cum-report titled ‘Constable helps land grab accused escape from Ribandar lock-up, both flee on bike - police left red-faced - massive manhunt underway’ in The Goan Everyday, the long arm of the law becomes ineffective if it sets a bad example by aiding and abetting criminals. This undermines the maintenance of law, order, peace, and tranquillity.

To address this, any policeman found aiding or abetting criminals should be immediately and permanently dismissed. Additionally, measures such as micro-chipping hardened criminals could help track them effectively even after their release from jail. This should be complemented by counselling during and after their prison term to aid in their rehabilitation. The long arm of the law must remain steadfast and never support criminal activities under any circumstances.
