We are still in the bronze age at the Paris Olympics. Will take us time to come to the more silver & then finally the gold age. Another 50 years maybe. The coverage of participation over disciplines for India is meagre compared to say China. We are in the skill category of shooting, archery etc. but despite a lot of noise being made about boxing and wrestling and more or less just javelin in track & field, we have nothing to show in terms of participation or results in the other disciplines. We need to up the ambition levels and the mental toughness of our athletes to bring in tangible results. What Prakash Padukone said about badminton, in fact is valid for all disciplines. But he got rejoinders from the athletes fraternity and the officials of the sports bodies that they are doing their best. But what if the best is not good enough? His opinion was to do good for the sportspersons fraternity and enjoin them to perform better. We have to wait now for Los Angeles and see if India's participation is better and more meaningful.
