This year, there are early signs of a satisfactory mango crop with the fruit more likely to be affordable to the common man.
However it must be said that in the early summer days the fruit is sold at an exorbitant price. It is only in the later stages that the fruit becomes affordable.
It is pertinent to note that most of the other fruits available in the market are sold by weight. Apples, oranges, chikoos, custard-apple and other popular fruits are all sold in kilos.
However mangoes are sold in dozens. In order for the consumer to get their money’s worth, mangoes too should be sold by weight and not in dozens. The price for a kilo of the mangoes should depend on the variety of the fruit.
