The commercial capital of Goa -- Margao -- is fast turning into a beggars paradise. The city plays host to hundreds of beggars who come in by the Konkan Railway and make the nooks and corners and the pavements their home.
Today, begging has become a profession for these migrants. These people have some sort of coterie and are seen to pester people at different areas.
The problem is compounded in the late hours where they can be seen arguing and fighting among themselves there by disturbing the peace in the locality.
The shopkeepers and residents have brought this to the notice of the Municipality officials but their pleas seem to be falling on deaf ears.
Incidents of pick pocketing are also on the rise in the commercial capital with mostly the senior citizens falling prey.
It would be in the interest of the residents and the State if our newly-elected Margao MLA Digambar Kamat takes up this issue on a priority and directs the MMC officials to crack a whip on this nuisance.
CHECK QUALITY OF HOT-MIX ON ROADS: Time again and again authorities are carrying out road works in Margao but within a short span of time the roads wear out.
The contractor needs to be held accountable for the quality of hot-mix that is being used. This sub-standard work is being done just to fool the people.
This is total failure on the part of the government and a waste of the tax payer’s money.
