Illegal encroachment by vendors at the vegetable market in the port town of Vasco has been a perennial problem. While the civic authorities have been carrying anti-encroachment drives off and on, it is more like a game of cat and mouse, with the vendors resorting to encroachment no sooner the anti-encroachment drive is over.
Many-a-times the goods have also been confiscated from the vendors but this has had very little effect in preventing encroachment.
The civic authorities seem to be at wits end to tackle this problem of illegal encroachment. Probably the most effective way to stop this menace would be for the municipal authorities to put up a metal railing between the vegetable stalls and the passage meant for the movement of the shoppers.
This will serve as a barrier to prevent vendors from encroaching onto the road and can also serve as a permanent solution to the illegal encroachment issue faced by Vascoites.
