The Mhaje Ghar scheme is a recent initiative launched by the Goa government to regularize houses built on government and comunidade land. This may legitimise encroachments, harm community rights, and face legal challenges, especially in ecologically sensitive areas. The recent amendment made to the comunidade lands which seeks to regularize illegal constructions undermines the traditional rights and functioning of the comunidades and by legitimizing unauthorized structures through regularisation the scheme promotes illegality. And this law differentiates between a Goan and non-Goan. The migrants are the largest encroachers of comunidade and government land. In 2001 amendment, the government itself had recognized that comunidade consent is necessary. Don't try to fool people in the name of Mhaje Ghar Yojana. And these schemes are brought when the election is nearing. No one has the right to sell anyone's property. Regularizing illegal structures in Goa is considered dangerous because it can encourage more illegal construction, undermine the rights of communities and the state, and pose environmental and safety risks and moreover it sets a bad precedent.
