As reported in the press, locals around Mopa airport area now increasingly concerned that many people from outside Goa are buying up large tracts of land around Mopa airport where obviously they will now start displacing locals/affecting demographics; not to mention the negatives it will bring along with it i.e., air, land, water pollution, reducing water tables, destruction of the environment, hills,water bodies etc. Were the activists from other parts of Goa not warning from the beginning about the same, but sadly many Goans around Mopa were divided on ideological lines by destructive politicians and ignored these warnings!
It is common knowledge in Goa that most MLAs get into politics to be land brokers and to start selling Goa, they develop illicit partnership with individuals particularly from outside Goa. This is one main reason many Goans are highly skeptical of the plans of ruling politicians like for example the IIT which is in one of last bastions of green Goa i.e. Sanguem. There were options available at SEZ land, Zuari and even Farmagudi but I guess the exponential increase of real estate prices cannot be realized there by self-centered ruling politicians.
