In our small State, the crime rate has shot up to 94 per cent which compares with the highest in the country. Admitting it, our worried Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant has gone on to say that most crimes are committed by migrants. In free Goa, migrants enter from all sides of borders which now constitutes 68 per cent of Goa's population. The continuous influx has become a threat to Goa's demography and identity.
Our Constitution guarantees that every Indian citizen has the fundamental right to live and earn in any part of the country but there is a clause that they should obey the laws of the land too. In fact, they commit rapes, robberies; murders, even uproot bank ATMs and flee to their native land.
There are no stringent checks and monitoring of their movements. When serious crimes take place our Chief Minister orders the police to be strict with tenant verification drive, but it is too late. The police find that the criminals after committing the crime have escaped to their home land. They alert their counterparts and with their help get them arrested and transit them to Goa.
