We are witnessing a murder of democracy and sheer piracy of electoral mandates in this tiny state. It was a sort of black Wednesday wherein 8 Congress MLAs jumped ship. With the BJP having a comfortable majority it was an unnecessary exodus of 8 Congress MLAs nose diving into the ruling party fold. It appears prima facie that the shift was for greener pastures although nothing has been promised. People's mandate has been betrayed and these turn coats have not sought permission of their respective electorates to align themselves with another party. The constitutional laws need changes of the kind wherein elected representatives have to compulsorily serve and remain rooted with their parent party for a minimum 5 years. Disqualification process requires streamlining so that a defector thinks twice whether to part ways or not. In recent times defectors have been ruling the roost and have brought the Congress party to its knees with taking oaths in temples, churches, and mosques proving futile . We are embarking in uncharted waters and only the guidance of God would be required to rely on making decisions for the beleaguered opposition to tackle majoritarian rule.
