No alibis this time for Goa LS polls

Since 1963 elections have been conducted in Goa and every party that has tested their electoral fortunes are well aware of the electoral fortunes along with the leaning of the electorate.

It is documented that the majority community constitute 64.5 per cent of the population, Catholics about 29.5 per cent and Muslims about 5.5 percent.

Of late the number of migrants has increased and they are a very important part of the electorate.

In Goa, there are just 2 Lok Sabha seats. South is traditionally a secular bastion and the North has been in recent years leaning against secular forces.

In the present dispensation, if you go by the strength of the electorate the secular forces attracted about 66 per cent of the votes, while BJP managed to squeak with just 33 per cent in 2022.

Given these figures and if this time round it is a direct fight between the INDIA block and the BJP, the fight will be very tight.
