Noble decision by parents to donate child's organs

No newspaper reader or news watcher would have remained unmoved on learning about the news of the 10-month-old baby girl (Aalin Sherin Abraham) who became the youngest organ donor in Kerala. On Feb 5, the child was seriously injured in a car accident and doctors declared her brain dead. Although the family was in deep sorrow and anguish, the parents took a noble decision to donate the child’s organs. These were her corneas, liver, two kidneys and a heart valve. Because of baby Aalin, five other children got a new lease of life and sight. It was befitting that the baby was given a farewell by the State which was attended by hi-profile politicians, personalities and thousands of mourners. When adults, educated or otherwise, baulk (due to social and religious beliefs and opposition by families) at the prospect of donating their organs for a good cause, the grieving parents of baby Aalin have set an excellent example. Prayers for baby Aalin’s soul to rest in peace and for her parents.
