CM Pramod Sawant recently issued show-cause notices to over 100 contractors and even stated that government engineers would henceforth be held responsible for any accidents caused by potholes on roads in Goa. Unfortunately, nothing of that sort has really happened so far.
Secondly, Sawant, who handles the Public Works Department (PWD), while speaking to reporters, also said that the State’s roads would be pothole-free before the start of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Goa. Now, what does Sawant really think? That he’s a big magician who can do great wonders or almost anything in no time in Goa? Well, after seeing the current condition of most roads in the State, I feel that such a thing is just not possible, at least not before the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Goa.
I think that if Sawant is really serious about doing something worthwhile in the state, then he should reduce graft in road contractors. He should also explain how his government chooses these contractors for road repairs or hotmixing.
