The recent fiasco surrounding the Oceanman swimming event at Carazalem beach has left many citizens puzzled and concerned. From all accounts, participants came from across India, and the beach was visibly decked with marquees and banners announcing the event. Anyone passing through the area would have instantly recognized that something significant was taking place.
What is deeply troubling, however, is that several local authorities ” including the Tourism Department, Police, and Fisheries Department ” appeared to be completely unaware of the event. How could such a large, public gathering on a popular coastal stretch proceed without official knowledge or oversight? This raises serious questions about local surveillance, inter-departmental coordination, and the effectiveness of our event regulation mechanisms. Equally perplexing is the silence on the official Oceanman website, which provides little or no information about the Carazalem event. This lack of transparency leaves the public guessing whether the event was officially sanctioned or an unauthorized use of the Oceanman brand. Goa deserves better ” and so do the many local communities and visitors who trust that public events are conducted responsibly, safely, and with proper authorization.
