The PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral recently inspected the load testing at the new Zuari bridge and gave no further timeline on its opening. After at least a dozen failed deadlines, commuters are left to face the agony at the Zuari bridge for yet another festive season.
There is undoubtedly an apparent mismatch in the PWD’s priorities. With the tourism season peaking, the opening of the Zuari bridge should have been a top priority because it is the crucial link between north and south, especially connecting people to the airport.
Now that it is unlikely that the bridge will open before Christmas, motorists and tourists will have to endure traffic jams and missed schedules. Cabral has shown no sensitivity and concern for the issue while undertaking useless site visits.
