A 51-year-old man from Belagavi, who was declared brain dead, has reportedly given life to four persons even after his death by donating his organs.
The heart was reportedly sent for transplant to a needy person in KLES hospital in Belagavi, the liver was sent to a hospital in Bengaluru and one kidney each was sent to hospitals in Dharwad and Hubballi.
In Goa thousands of patients continue to wait their turn for an organ transplant. This is possible only when more organ donors come forward.
A living person can also be an organ donor. The donation of one kidney or part of a liver is safe for the donor and is allowed only after stringent medical and legal checks.
It may be recalled that a sixty-year old resident from Vasco has set an example in humanity in the history of Goa. When the man was declared brain dead in April 2018 his family decided to donate his organs for the needy patients.
Pledging one’s organs can be considered as the noblest gesture a human being can make.
