Pathetic (non) maintenance of district library in Navelim

The maintenance of the South Goa District Library, named after luminary Dr Francisco Luis Gomes, leaves much to be desired. Mildewed walls, moss-covered laterite, leaking sewage pipes, peeling plaster, etc., lend a very shabby look to the exterior, while the interiors are also in bad shape, with damp internal walls, flaking paint, and a leaky skylight being observed.

Hundreds of people use the building every day; it is a crying shame that the government is least bothered about this illustrious repository of knowledge, which is second only to the Central Library in Panaji. It does seem that the sarkar places no value on enablers of education; all it is adept at is sowing discord in society. I appeal to the authorities to look into the matter at the earliest.
