Of late one comes across several videos and photos on social media of citizens filling up potholes on the roads in their locality with stones and rubble. This is a sorry state of affairs as citizens are forced to act when the elected representatives of the constituencies seem least bothered about the condition of the roads. In the past citizens used to symbolically plant saplings in the pot holes to draw the attention of the authorities. But this has not achieved the results. The authorities concerned should at least now open their eyes as citizens are doing the repair work which is the duty of the government. Several accidents, some fatal, have taken place due to the potholes and one cannot allow more precious lives to be lost. It is ironic that road users are made to pay road tax and are forced to fill up the potholes. This repair work should be considered as a symbolic gesture in order to draw the attention of the authorities to the pathetic condition of the roads.
