From time to time our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant makes noises about saving Goan land, saving mother Mhadei, saving our culture etc. but his actions speak otherwise. Two days ago he attended an ostensibly private function (but with government logos visible all over) sponsored by the Bhutani group, a real estate developer which is laying waste the village of Sancoale to build @ 700 residential units for deep pocketed buyers from up North. The site on which the complex is coming up was a designated private forest in the Regional Plan before the land use was surreptiously changed to settlement zone to facilitate building activity. The denizens of Sancoale who were brutally stopped by police from protesting at the venue and civil society at large is dead against such 'development' being heaped on our villages. Other megaprojects launched by the House of Abhinandan Lodha at Bicholim and Zuari Nagar have been given the go ahead by the very same sarkar which pretends to be the guardian of Goa. It is as clear as day that the conscienceless BJP government is nothing but a real estate agent selling Goa to the highest bidder.
