The government takes great pride in claiming that it has undertaken development works in Goa by completing numerous projects. We have no hesitation in complimenting the government for the good works done. In fact, we must acknowledge and give credit where it is due. In the same breath, we have to point out some works costing crores of rupees were unnecessary and certainly not a priority. These include building of samadhis, costly celebrations, new cars for ministers, etc. Even after 60 years of liberation people are hoping for better, if not 24x7, water supply and power connectivity. Can the government honestly tell the people has it satisfactorily provided these two basic necessities? The government authorities concerned will have to put their heads together and work in tandem to provide water and electricity in an efficient manner and alleviate people’s suffering.
