The recent bribery allegations made by former minister Pandurang Madkaikar shows that corruption is an evil which prevails in every nook and corner. The horror of horrors is that in India 60 per cent of the amount spent by the government on public welfare goes to the pockets of a systemic group of officials and others. And only 40 per cent reaches the people. A law alone cannot solve the problems of society, the attitude of the people needs to change. Corruption is a complex issue and is built into the system. The gangrene of corruption is unfortunately eating into the moral fabric of the nation. The need-based and greed-based corruption has become order of the day. Corruption among government officials and political leaders is a greater threat than hired assassins. 'Na khaunga na khaane dunga' was just another jumla by BJP, as numerous scams are happening under their watch. The common man often envisaged as a paragon of virtue, seems to perpetually await a mythical superman to eradicate this scourge. Corruption is also a result of unbridled greed and increased market competitiveness.
