Goa means pristine beaches, lush greenery, lakes, rivers and mountains full of vegetation. All its natural beauty forms the very soul of Goa which every Goan takes pride in. Goa is an emerald of India where people flock from the world over giving a sense of proudness to all Indians.
The three anti-Goa mega-projects imposed on our tiny state will have a devastating effect on the environment. Coal will destroy the lives of our future generations. The destruction of Mollem's forested areas will be a loss of biodiversity which will have adverse impact on the already warming planet. And it sounds very absurd that the government has agreed to plant double the number of trees in Karnataka to replace those thousand ancient trees cut in Goa.
Elected governments represent the people. But when the government itself acts stubborn and ignore the dissent of the local populace, the profit-making motives of the representatives are exposed.
Being the voice of the voiceless is true humanity and that’s been seen all over Goa. Kudos to the participants of the save Mollem campaign and the coal revolt. The government is duty-bound to protect and safeguard the interest of the state and its people. It is time the MLAs who say that they are with the people resign to support the cause.
