It was heartening to read about the introduction of pink autorickshaws in Mapusa. The project is a joint effort of the Rotary International and Goa government. The autos would be driven by women and for women.
The autos could be used to pick and drop students to schools and colleges. The drivers would be trained in self-defence and provided with distinct pink uniforms. This initiative would help the needy women to earn their livelihood and would be safe for women passengers.
The above brings up a point. Why do most of the men auto drivers do not wear their uniforms? Also, as per rules the autos are to ply with fare metres but these are just show pieces and passengers are charged a bomb.
Hope this problem of over-charging does not arise in the pink autos too.
