The PM’s Christmas shenanigans with cardinals, bishops, priests and lay leaders at his residence on Christmas Day which have gone viral on YouTube, TV channels and print media have to be taken with a pinch of salt. His talk of compassion and inclusivity as espoused by the teachings of Jesus Christ sounds hollow when the community has been facing the backlash of the Hindutva brigade using the Anti-Conversion law by targeting the priests and churches. It was ironic that even the cardinals and bishops did not speak up for the community but instead heaped praises on the PM. Sportswoman Anju Bobby George did not take up for the women wrestlers protesting against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual exploitation and intimidation. As rightly pointed out by some of the activists that this bonhomie has political overtones ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. None of the speakers had the temerity to speak out against the mayhem unleashed against the minority Kukis in Manipur and the inaction by the BJP CM Biren Singh to rein in the violence. The stoic silence of the PM speaks volumes of his complicity in the scheme of things.
