I read writers in various magazines advising political leaders from making personal hate speeches but to no avail. Different political leaders keep on repeating the same during election campaigns and recently the Supreme Court had asked to report hate speeches which is a step in the right direction to curb such malpractices. I would like to remind the Congress leaders in 2007, Sonia called the Narendra Modi 'maut ka saudagar' ( merchant of death) which had backfired the same way the current BJP leaders also called Sonia Italian and that Congress is running the country from Rome and many such things which could be avoided. Assembly elections campaigns in Maharashtra and Jharkhand have seen ruling party leaders making offensive speeches at rallies and words like 'Batange to Katenge', 'Ek Rahenge to safe Rahenge' targeting minorities. Instead of hate speeches spell out the policies implemented and infrastructure projects executed which will act as a basis to bring people closer to the party and covert the same into votes. Elections need to be fought by highlighting the track record of the ruling party, and not through narrow, sectarian politics.
