The South West monsoon has yet to arrive in Goa. What we are experiencing during the past week or so are a few pre-monsoon thundershowers which have disrupted normal life with long spells of power outages. It is pertinent to mention that Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar had stated earlier that his department has made arrangements to take up pre-monsoon works to mitigate the inconvenience of power outages due to the rains.
Yet, we see no signs of any action plan in progress as power outages have increased during the past week. Secondly, if Goa’s power requirements have increased by 100 MW every year, why were no alternative arrangements made to buy power from other sources?. The Goa government has also failed miserably on the solar power front. What a shameful display of poor planning and maintenance, to say the least.
