Just two Sundays back , the entire Bardez taluka was without power due to the shutdown called for maintenance works at a few substations. Although the shutdown was announced to last from 6 am -12 noon, power was restored only around 2 pm, Surprisingly, the Electricity dept, has now announced another major shutdown on Sunday June 11, from 6.30 am to 12 noon. for maintenance works at the Tivim sub-station. Once again, the public will be put to a lot of inconvenience, with their perishable items in danger, and a total dependence on their inverters, in addition to the stifling summer heat. Having lived in Mumbai for most of my years, I often keep wondering when the day will come when the people of Goa will be free of such irritating shutdowns and will be blessed to enjoy uninterrupted power supply with no inverters, voltage regulators and frequent power outages through the much hyped green energy, solar and wind power promised by the Goa govt.
