With Ganesh Chaturthi being celebrated today the Mapusa Municipality this year has done grand arrangements for the vendors and others so that no congestion can occur. On the other hand the Deputy Collector Mapusa Gurudas Dessai had directed the council in order to avoid the traffic congestion and inconvenience to the commuters during festival to take steps of providing parking space in the open behind the new KTC bus stand. The Mapusa Fire Station incharge Krishna Parrikar had suggested that no fire crackers stalls be allowed inside the market area. Responsible people want to celebrate a fire incident-free festival. It may be recalled that in the past on many occasions fire incidents have engulfed the market and fire tender vehicles find it difficult to reach the fire affected site. The Dy Collector should have taken priority steps to ensure the market areas are free of fires and should have directed the council to make arrangement for fire tenders to drive during emergency in all the market lanes as per the High Court order and so the MMC should not be under contempt of the order.
