The government's inefficiency in providing motorable roads and its apathy in getting potholed roads repaired has seen a rush of patients at the State’s orthopaedics with ligament injuries, fractures and several vertebral compression fractures.
Though potholes have been directly responsible for two-wheeler riders meeting with accidents, in many cases injuries have been sustained in avoiding the craters on the road.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Mahendra Kudchadkar says potholes have been responsible for every severe accident, even when the riders were travelling at very low speed. In such cases, riders have been hit from behind by another vehicle, when they slowed down while trying to manoeuvre potholed roads.
Upset over the poor condition of the roads and their alleged neglect by the government, People had started planting trees in potholes to make people aware.
The roads in Goa are always suffering from potholes during the monsoons, but still no improvement in PWD work. Moreover, the situation has gotten worse during the heavy rains as it is difficult for commuters to see the roads and know which dangerous parts to avoid. All hot mixing of city and village roads are in vain as they get washed away during rain.
