Provide sanitary pad dispensers in toilets

A group of citizens has reportedly slammed the Margao Municipal Council for the non-functioning sanitary pad dispensers installed in the city’s public toilets.

The pad vending machines are intended to ease the difficulties faced by women during their monthly menstrual cycle. It is learnt that such dispensers cost only Rs 25,000 per unit. Given the importance of such a facility it would be prudent for the state government to install such units in every ladies public washroom.

When we talk about women empowerment the government should also look into the basic needs of women. Such a facility in ladies toilets plays a crucial role in menstrual hygiene management, providing access to essential products in public spaces.

Having easy access to sanitary menstrual products within reach reduces the stress and anxiety associated with the menstrual cycle. This can reduce the risk of infections and other health problems.

Having a unit for disposing of the used sanitary-pad to be incinerated also provides for its proper disposal. Such a facility will also support education and awareness about menstrual hygiene.
