Growing urbanisation poses a serious threat to the environment since it is causing green spaces to disappear across the country. In almost all states, there is a decrease in the amount of trees.
According to data analysis from the Forest Survey of India every state tree cover has decreased by minimum of 40 sq km in the past ten years.
Another threat is more and more trees would be cut down nationwide as a result of the Central Government's forest conservation rules. Small tree patches and solitary trees outside of reported forest areas that are smaller than one hectare in size are referred to as "tree cover."
These trees are typically found as dispersed trees in urban areas, village areas, homesteads and along roads etc. To improve tree cover each and every state has to come up with attractive offers to people.
Every State in the nation should offer 5 to 6 units of free electricity in exchange for planting and maintaining a tree on a specific campus, similar to what the state of Jharkhand state government is doing now.
The offer should be applicable only for suitable tree that will aid in future nature preservation. The offer of free electricity should merely focus on increasing urban vegetation by including every citizen in the mission to plant trees.
Otherwise every state government has to set a target to plant crores of saplings in every monsoon to increase the state’s forest cover.
