This is with reference to the report, "Act on choked drains, health centre tells Calangute panchayat - The Goan Everyday - October 31, 2023." This is a disturbing news report from Calangute. Needless to say, the authorities must take urgent steps to clear the debris from nullahs and the stagnant water pools in order to prevent the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria. It seems like the authorities at several locations in the country, do not seem to understand what it means to be affected by diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya. Presently, Mumbai is witnessing several cases of dengue, malaria and chikungunya which leaves one immobile for couple of months. It is imperative therefore, that urgent steps are undertaken to clear the mess at public places whether it is in Calangute or Mumbai or anywhere else. Public health should be the top priority of the government. Are the authorities listening?
