Recent developments have caused concern, particularly involving an out-of-state speaker who made derogatory remarks about St Francis Xavier. There is also video evidence showing Cabinet Minister Mauvin Godinho present on stage, where he did not intervene and appeared to support the speaker. In this context, it raises questions about whether he should continue as a senior minister in the BJP Goa government. It is worth noting that Mauvin Godinho joined the BJP after being with the Congress, and the party has other MLAs who could be considered for leadership roles if needed.
There are also ongoing concerns about the key departments he handles, especially Transport and Panchayat, which some believe are not performing effectively at present. Additionally, issues have been highlighted in his constituency of Dabolim, where rapid real estate development has reportedly taken place without adequate attention to environmental and health regulations, contributing to sewage and public health problems. In my view, there are also concerns about the way religion is used in public life, and whether it is sometimes invoked for political convenience rather than genuine respect.
