Reality check on Modi govt’s 8-year stint in power

I wonder how many of us will agree with the rosy picture painted and accolades heaped upon prime minister Modi by his cronies and well-wishers, on the completion of 8 years in power at the Centre.

Starting with the failed exercise of de-monetisation of high denomination currency notes in November 2016 , which made the rich richer and the poor poorer and miserable, poor planning and mismanagement during the pandemic saw the snuffing out of millions of lives. The overnight declaration of a national lockdown added to the woes of the people. Migrant workers were the worst hit, having to return on foot to their native place. Then came the turn of the farmers who were on a collision course  with the  Centre, agitating over the new farm laws for more than a year. Today, the minorities feel threatened and insecure, as their places of worship are targeted and their religious laws and customs challenged and overturned. On the economic front, the country’s  GDP rate has slumped further, putting the country’s economy further in jeopardy. With the rise in inflation, prices of  foodstuff,  essentials,  petrol, diesel, and cooking gas  have become unaffordable.
