Refugee influx leading to strife in Christian nations

"We are all migrants on this earth," said the Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao, in a message to the people of Goa on World Day of Migrants and Refugees. He appealed to the community to be more inclusive. 

There are two types of migrations viz, internal and external. Internal migrants are generally not a problem, except in small states like Goa, where vote bank politics comes into play, as a few votes of migrants can make a big difference in the political fortunes of politicians. 

I would, however, like to dwell on external migration and refugees. Because of religious persecutions millions are fleeing their own countries and moving to the west, mainly to Christian countries, where they feel more secure. While many western Christian countries are welcoming the refugees, it is ironical that these refugees do not flee to the countries of their own faith. This anomaly needs to be corrected as it is leading to considerable strife in Christian countries in the west.

As Goa gears up for the 2022 polls, we will be seeing many party functionaries visiting the State. The TMC made landfall last week, and their supreme leader could be here soon. But how will the TMC which seeks to solve all of Goa’s problems actually achieve this as they have no real grassroots foundation. A victory in its home state doesn’t mean victory is guaranteed here.
