I write to express deep anguish and strong condemnation over the recent derogatory statements made by Gautam Khattar against the patron saint of Goa. Such remarks, reportedly made during a public event in Mormugao, are not only offensive but strike at the very core of communal harmony and mutual respect. Khattar allegedly made these remarks during a Parashuram Jayanti event in Vasco. It is equally disturbing that these statements were made in the presence of elected representatives, including Minister and MLA, without any immediate and firm objection. Public office bearers carry a responsibility to uphold constitutional values and must not appear indifferent when divisive rhetoric is voiced. Goa has long been a beacon of communal harmony, where diverse faiths coexist with dignity and respect. The registration of an FIR by the Goa Police is a necessary step, and the matter must be pursued seriously. The offender must issue an unconditional public apology and must be put behind bars. I also call upon community leaders, including Church authorities, to speak firmly in defense of their faith, and upon all citizens to reject divisive narratives.
