The recent remarks on Shivaji by Fr Bolmax have stirred a hornet’s nest. A huge crowd of Shiv Premis gathered outside Vasco police station on Friday evening demanding action and FIR against Fr Bolmax. The whole incident was due to remarks on Shivaji during his sermon.
The remarks have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Shivaji was a great warrior and saved Indian mothers and sisters from brutal treatment during those periods of ruling. He has kept Hindu religion on top and worshiped Lord Shiva.
It's surprising to note that the priest brought up the issue not related to his sermon. The priests in temples or churches are messengers who act as mediators between the devotees and God and seek blessings by way of performing poojas.
It is important that the religious heads should desist from making remarks on other religions during their sermons.
Goa has been peaceful State and all live in peace and harmony with no religious differences. It would be in the fitness of things to respect other religions to avoid communal flare-ups and stoke religious tensions.
