Several places in the State have been facing water woes for quite a while. It is now the turn of Siolim to protest against the water shortage.
It is learnt that the issue of shortage of water is a long pending issue in Siolim. A couple of days back the villagers of Anjuna had protested before the PWD officials in Mapusa office for lack of water in the village and even threatened to widen their agitation if the issue was not resolved.
Several cities are also getting restricted water supply for various reasons. Many-a-time there is a burst in the pipeline which leads to people in the locality not getting water supply till such time that the pipeline is repaired.
Water is a basic necessity and the citizens cannot be made to suffer due to its shortage. We are in the middle of the hot summer season and there is an unusual rise in the Mercury these days.
The concerned elected-representative and the local PWD officials need to do everything possible to see that the citizens do not suffer due to water shortage.
Water pipelines which are choked need to be cleared. Old pipelines need to be replaced. Citizens cannot be deprived of a regular supply of water.
