Rising crimes in Goa with no convictions

Not a day passes without newspaper reports on several crimes in Goa such as cybercrimes, robberies, murders, rape, cheating, forgery, land grabbing, etc. The latest to hit the headlines is the ‘cash-for-jobs’ mega scam that has opened up a can of worms involving top government officials, after the open confessions of the main accused, Pooja Naik. Yet, going by past experiences, cases will drag on for years, after which no one will be found guilty due to the lackadaisical approach of investigating authorities and the failure of the prosecution to present credible evidence. All this has emboldened criminals and is the reason why the crime rate in the state has increased. There is a lot of talk by the government that the guilty will not be spared, but we have yet to see results. It is time for some more positive action by the Goa government.

Concerns grow over outsiders contesting elections
