Scam in the name of government jobs

Goa is in the news again due to a job scam involving a woman named Sharavani, also known as Pooja Naik. She deceived many job seekers by promising them government jobs. Posing as an employee of the secretariat, she demanded large sums of money from these hopeful candidates but failed to provide jobs or refund their money. Many people fell victim to her scheme, believing they would secure positions in government departments.

After receiving complaints at the Mardol and Porvorim police stations, the Goa police arrested her and seized luxury cars. According to the law, taking or giving money for jobs is illegal. However, due to her promises, many youths and their parents believed her and handed over significant amounts. It has also come to light that she had previously secured jobs for others and had connections with officials in various government departments.

The Chief Minister stated he was the first to call for her arrest, emphasising that government jobs are not for sale. The state government should establish a Staff Selection Commission in Goa to ensure that deserving candidates get jobs based on merit, rather than through influence or pressure from politicians. All other states have a Staff Selection Commission that recruits based on merit. Now it is time for the Goa police to take strict action against such culprits and protect Goan youths from being cheated out of their parents’ hard-earned money.
