The organisers of the event titled ‘Tales of Kamasutra and Christmas Celebration’ have reportedly cancelled the four-day programme after strong objections from several groups, NGOs and members of civil society in Goa. Formal complaints were filed at different police stations, with organisations alleging that the event could promote inappropriate behaviour and hurt religious sentiments. They also asked the police to stop the event and take action against the organisers. So far, no public statement has been issued by Catholic BJP leaders on the controversy. This silence has raised questions among some community members.
The Goa Police acted on the complaints and issued directions to the organisers, but no arrests have been made. Many people are asking why action has not been taken, especially since the event linked Christmas with a Kamasutra-themed programme in its advertisements. The intention behind this link is still unclear and has caused concern among the Christian community. Several community members feel the issue should be taken seriously and have urged the police to act promptly. They say there is a growing pattern of outsiders organising events during the Christmas season that create controversy or hurt religious sentiments, often in the name of tourism promotion.
