It was disheartening to know that SGDH, Margao has no facility of ICU. The information came to light when one of the patient was referred and shifted to private hospital. The South Goa district hospital played vital role during COVID-19 treatment and tests but today it is learnt that it lacks equipments required for treatment. For patients from Salcete villages SGDH is more convenient and time saving then GMC. Margao is a centre for all villages around hence after referring to local health centre the next centre is SGDH. The facility will reduce the overcrowding of patients at GMC and doctors will be able to give time and better attention to the patients. SGDH should be upgraded and as MBBS students pass out every year they should be absorbed in Margao hospital. At one time the said hospital was considered for training college but it is equally important to have treatment and care centre for patients. Margao has many private hospitals but all cannot afford the treatment as the price is high. Government should consider SGDH as an important centre of treatment and provide all facilities and equipment.
