The city of Mapusa is famous for its traditional market and Friday Bazaar throughout the state of Goa. The law and order situation in Mapusa is getting out of hand as the local MLA, police department, and the Mapusa municipal corporation have failed to control the city, which is deteriorating day by day. Outsiders are drinking alcohol in public places openly, including at the bus stand, and are littering by throwing bottles and cans on the roadside.
Harassment of locals over paid parking and troubles in the marketplace for vendors are tarnishing the image of Goans. There are numerous abandoned vehicles on the roadside in the city, which are occupying parking spaces, and the authorities are not taking any responsibility or action to clear the menace, causing suffering to the public every day. Today, everyone seems to want to exploit Goa by deceiving the native Goans who have been struggling and engaging in small businesses for years for their livelihoods.
Daylight intimidation is rampant as individuals consume drugs and alcohol and assault others at will. Is our system spiralling out of control, where criminals have no fear of the law in Goa, or are they supported by MLAs and ministers who keep them as bodyguards and supporters for elections? The local MLA, police department, and Mapusa Municipal Council office should address these issues promptly before they worsen for public safety.
