While a positive step, Goa faces a more pressing issue: snakebites surpass dog bites in frequency. Despite the launch of a national action plan for snakebite prevention, the South Goa District Hospital records an average of fifteen snakebite cases monthly.

Thankfully, no snakebite-related deaths have occurred in the hospital over the past six months. However, other health facilities may treat snakebite victims. Venomous snake bites can lead to severe tissue and nerve damage, limb loss, chronic issues, or death. Regular pest control in residential areas can significantly reduce snake encounters.
