Social media can have big impact on children

Social media is a fast-emerging platform that has changed how people communicate and connect. Since these networking platforms are easy to use and are entertaining, they have attracted the attention of most children. Social media, if used wisely, is a good platform to interact, learn, communicate, and have fun. However, if misused or excessively used, it may lead to cyberbullying, anxiety, and health problems. So, before allowing children to access this digital technology, one should be aware of its use, privacy settings, and age limit. Social media affects behaviour negatively by depriving kids of important social lessons they would usually learn through in-person communication. This can cause them to be more callous, anxious, and insecure. Kids who use media in their bedrooms often don't get enough sleep at night.  Its use can distract kids from important tasks, interfere with homework time, and hurt school performance. It would hence be advisable not to allow a child to access social media before adolescence independently. Even after adolescence, the age limit for using different networking sites should differ to avoid adverse effects.
