When you call in sick, the first priority of your manager is to make sure your duty and assignments are covered 100% as the word "sick" shows that you are unable to carry out duties being ill on that specific day or days. But some have zero empathy when any employee calls in sick. The short answer is, they have poor leadership skills or influencial recruits as they always assume the odds
(really sick? ) rather give the benefit of the doubt. On the flip side, good leaders never question your intentions when they are well organized and if they have assessed your loyal work ethics.
If you are following company policy around sick leave there is not much you can do, I’m afraid. However, remember their attitude says more about them than it does about you. And there are some managers, who will without assessing or check the sick report will blindly say "No, I cannot grant you sick leave as I don't have cover" -- but later will call you up while you are healing and preparing to go to bed at 9pm, advising "Yes, I'm approving your sick leave for tomorrow, subject to, you open the office at 9am and close the business at 6pm - in between hours you can consider sick leave, but don't switch off your phone." Do this sick staff have any choice, rather accept the unprofessionalism with a smile. I understand that this is very common in tiny branch offices in Goa and with fear of losing one's job, one is forced to be oblige and do what unqualified management order.
