The animosity caused by CM over the flag hoisting issue at Sao Jacinto Island does not augur well for a statesman to brand its citizens as anti-nationals. It is a well-known fact that the Navy had been making overtures in the past to usurp the island given its strategic location. From time immemorial the flag hoisting was carried out in a cordial atmosphere by the islanders. By permitting the Navy to jointly hoist the flag amounts to compromising the rights and identity of the islanders. The late CM Parrikar too as Defence Minister allocated parcels of land for Defexpo and Aero India amidst resentment. Looks like we still not been liberated from the shackles of military power after 75 years of independence as the whole of Goa has become a military fortress reminiscent of the rule of Portuguese era. Just by tendering an apology on the Twitter handle cannot soothe ruffled feathers.
