That was indeed a heartwarming gesture on the part of the Goa Police, visiting sector citizens and  greeting them on the occasion of World Senior Citizens Day. The picture alongside the report says it all, how happy the woman Sundari Polji seems, while receiving the gift from the policeman. The Goa police have sent out the right message that they care for senior citizens of our country. Recently, the Mumbai police too have initiated measures for the protection of senior citizens. The government on their part however, need to give a thought to the welfare of senior citizens. They have struggled throughout their life and now they expect to relax, to have some peace of mind. But the reality is different. The diminishing returns on FD and other investments & spiralling cost of medicines is cause for worry. They are being taxed even until their death. They are even made to beg for travel concessions. They certainly deserve better. The government ought to do their bit.
