In yet another hurdle for the Goan para players, the lift at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium remains inoperative for the last four weeks.The para players are deprived of practise as the table tennis tables are shifted to the first floor as several tournaments of table tennis and badminton are being organised for persons without disabilities. Nikhilesh Pednekar who has locomotor disability wants to represent Goa in all para sports, however after travelling from Vasco he cannot practise. Mithun Shirodkar, a person with spinal cord injury, who was restricted to his house for more than eight years due to a fatal accident comes to SAG on every Sunday to practice table tennis. Moises Rodrigues who has locomotor disability, represents Goa in para table tennis and para badminton at the Nationals for the last four years. The issue was raised in the monsoon Goa Legislative Assembly Session. As the secretary of Disability Alliance for Inclusive Goa (DAIG), Stany D'Souza has noticed sub-standard facilities provided to para players. The member of advisory board for Persons with Disabilities and Goa Para Table Tennis Committee president, Vishant Nagvekar has made several representations to the authorities in the last two years.
